Example projects:

  • Development of an IT strategy for a leading university. The university recognised that it needed an effective IT strategy to compete globally and attract students and research funding. We worked with the university to identify and segment specific end-user groups (teaching/learning staff, researchers, administrative staff and students) and tailored the IT strategy around meeting the needs of these groups. This project led to a further assignment to restructure the IT department to better align itself with the needs of these groups.
  • Development of an ICT strategy for a local authority. The authority appointed SSG Advisory to review its IT infrastructure, evaluate the alignment between the requirements of its public service delivery units and to assess its governance and funding arrangements for IT. Working closely with all stakeholders we developed an action and investment plan to ensure that these strategic components were optimised and that a five-year budget was created to support its continued improvement.
  • A large unitary local authority under significant financial pressure appointed SSG Advisory to develop its core systems strategy and to recommend whether it should retain its existing core back-office ERP system or replace these with other ERP or best-of-breed systems. After conducting our research we concluded that entering a shared services arrangement with a nearby authority which had implemented a later version of the current ERP  was the best way forward and would save £16M over a seven-year period and protect the authority's existing investment in its ERP licences.
